Old West ESP: How Psychic Readings Work
Listen to life, it will guide you.
Every student is a master, and every master is a student. We can learn from anyone, anywhere, and anything at any time. A song on the radio, a quote on twitter, the question of a small child…any little thing might spark just the idea or emotion that you need. Guidance and inspiration are all around us if we allow ourselves to be open to it…even in little pieces of cardboard, like tarot cards.
The famous psychologist Carl Jung called these meaningful coincidences “synchronicity” (Yep -just like the awesome Police album.)
Synchronicities and those little coincidences really are just as meaningful as they seem. Synchronicity is the language of spirit. Why not? If the universe is a unified whole (think quantum non-locality and the time-space continuum if you want to be scientific about it) then it makes sense that one thing can echo another seemingly unrelated thing. A random song on the radio can spark an emotion. A tarot card can echo a bit of needed advice. That kind of connection and resonance is what lets guidance and inspiration pop up anywhere.
It is a little like the old western movies where cowboys would listen to the ground to hear other horses coming from far away. The ground is a connected whole, so the cowboy can get information beyond what he see or hear directly. In a sense, listening to the ground gives the cowboy “extrasensory” information. On one hand, the whole thing is perfectly normal and scientific with clearly defined cause and effect. The other horses’ galloping creates vibrations in the ground which are transmitted and amplified by the rock to our hero, the cowboy. On the other hand, this information from ‘beyond’ his unassisted sight and hearing helps the cowboy achieve a more esoteric, even ‘spiritual’ goal, like escaping the bandits or rescuing the girl from the train tracks or what have you.
Anyone can hear vibration in rocks. Anyone can read tarot cards or be “psychic”. Some cowboys have had more practice and are more skilled at understanding what they hear. Some people have better hearing than others. So some people are better at working with intuition than others. Another great example is the episode of Mythbusters where Kari could hear the “Chinese invasion alarm” better than Adam. The vibrations are there…nothing special, evil, mysterious or scary about that…the trick is hearing and understanding the vibrations. Some people just have a better knack for it.
Not everyone wants to learn to hear ancient invasion alarms or distant horses. That’s why we have psychics. Sometimes we need a little help in hearing, seeing and understanding the subtle hints and synchronicities that are out there.
Oddly enough, language supports this analogy. The oogie-boogie, airy-fairy spirit-only approach to psychics and intuition uses the terms “vibrations” and “energy” all the time.
So if a random scent of flowers reminds you of your dearly departed grandmother, it’s ok…why not allow yourself to be comforted and inspired by these little treasures that life throws your way.
Wishing you a day of delightful synchronicities.
In memory of Grandad, who liked any tv show as long as it was a western, and introduced me to “Kung Fu” when I was a little grasshopper.
