It’s no secret that I view the world, Tarot included, through a Taoist tinted lens. To my way of thinking, authenticity is importent.
The other color on my life-lens is a non-diestic naturalistic view, so I celebrate the Winter Solstice. I like to do that with a full-on Yule kind of thing – tree, lights, cookies, the wholy holly-jolly thing. It is common ground, or at least adjacent ground with the christian factions of the family, even the uber evangelicals.
In this way, the Two of Cups reflects a lesson it has taken me decades to learn: It is good to build bridges, but you have to make it a bridge you are willing to stand on. And the foundation of a real, walk-able bridge is authenticity and internal harmony. You can’t build a bridge constructed of thin masks and pretense. If the ones you are trying to reach out toward can not set foot on the bridge that you’ve built…that is another issue. If you reach out to others without a solid footing, then you will fall over.
Whatever holiday you celebrate, or if you celebrate none, do so. Being your true self is the only way to keep internal harmony. If you show your true self, and reach out in goodwill anyway…then that act of goodwill is infinitely more meaningful than ‘playing along to keep the peace’.
Whether they accept that extended hand or step onto the bridge that’s been built or not – at least you have the inner comfort of celebrating in a way that is meaningful and beautiful. No matter what others may choose, at least you will have the comfort of harmony between your inner and outer self.
In this time of celebrating the things we all cherish: light, children, family, generosity, and so much more, chances are others will choose to celebrate with you, and accept your harmonious self.
Be it online, be it in an unfamilar group…this is such a time of universal celebration…Bohdi Day, Hanukkah, Christmas, Festivus, Yule, the Dudeist/Pastifarian Holiday, New Year, or just an atheist love of life…chances are there is someone, somewhere that celebrates as you. We are all of one human race. We all live in the same one, grand Cosmos. You are not alone, so there is nothing to lose in seeking the inner harmony that the 2 of cups reminds us of today.
“…we are all connected to each other biologically, to the earth chemically and to the rest of the universe atomically…We are in the universe and the universe is in us.” – Niel deGrasse Tyson
