Tarotbytes: Wheel of Fortune

“Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it” – George Santayana (www.wikiquotes.com)

“When life hands you lemons, stuff them in your bra” – hallmark card

There are reasons why the past is part of Tarot readings, even from a modern perspective. It is just a reality of our three dimensional existence that we experience the fourth dimension, time, in a linear fashion. To us, past crafted where we are now, and we use now to bend the direction of our time line to direct the future.

Time may be a straight line, but our spiritual path, our personal learning is filled with wheels, circles, squiggles, spirals and curlicues. Life’s lessons will repeat themselves until we get them through our sometimes-thick skulls. ¬†Patterns repeat until we learn from them. Both individually and as a social group.

What goes around, comes around. The key is thinking what you can do to make things better this time around. What worked in the past? What needs to change to make a better future? People talk of the arc of history… we can use the arc of history to bend the arc of the future before it becomes history.

Remember what happened the last time this pattern of events happened? Do we really want to go down that road again? Remember when that other thing turned out awesome? The wheel of history turns, but we don’t have to let it run us over, if we but remember the circles the wheel has taken before.
